Welton Waters

Today saw us doing something a bit novel…! we are normally driving all over Northern England to deliver Mountain Bike Training but today we were only 1 mile from my house and only 5 mins drive down the road….. At Welton Waters Adventure Centre by the banks of the River Humber and with a backdrop of the glorious Yorkshire Wolds.

We were asked to deliver a bespoke Mountain Bike Leader training package to allow the centre to deliver Mountain Biking activities this summer locally around Welton Water and the Humber section of the Trans-Pennine Way. It was a glorious day with the muddy banks surprisingly dry. The training was very well received and highlighted the need to be aware of the potential problems that can occur when delivering commercial Mountain Bike Activities.

IMG_1039The day started with awareness of the Mountain Bike and Mountain Biking in general and theIMG_9698 importance of “credibility” as a leader. We then progressed onto Leadership and Coaching followed by Trailside Fixes and What a Leader would carry in his/her pack. We finished the day with a mobile Skills Course and Warm up games, then a ride around the area. Peter Blaney the Manager of the Centre explained how they are planning to develop the area for the summer and it certainly looks like there will be lots a potential for some young Mountain Bikers to maybe take their first pedal strokes off road in a great environment.
